Qatar’s Ministry of Interior declares grace period for expats’ residential status

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced that a grace period will be allowed for expatriates in order for them to correct their legal status. Revising their residential status in the country will help avoid legal procedures for violations when it comes to provisions of Law No. 21 of 2015 Regulating the Entry and Exit of Expatriates and their Residence.

“Under the provisions of Law No. 21 of 2015 Regulating the Entry and Exit of Expatriates and their Residence, the Ministry of Interior announces a time limit to correct the legal status of expatriates who violate the provisions of this law, starting on October 10, 2021, and ending on December 31, 2021,” the MoI’s notice says.

This is especially useful for expatriates who have existing violations regarding their residency or their work visa. This also applies to an expat’s family visit rules, as the grace period allows them to revise their legal status accordingly. As such, the MoI is providing a generous grace period from October 10th to December 31st.

“Accordingly, all violating expatriates or employers/hosts shall approach the Search and Follow-up Department or any of these service centres – Umm Salal, Umm Sunaim (formerly Industrial Area), Mesaimeer, Al Wakra and Al Rayyan – to submit a request for reconciliation regarding violations of the above law to consider exemption from the reconciliation amount or its reduction based on the provisions of the law mentioned above. The Ministry of Interior calls on employers and expatriates to use this grace period for reconciliation to correct their legal status and avoid legal procedures against them for not legitimizing their status,” says the notice.

In other news, any traveler from the State of Qatar who has already been administered full Covid-19 vaccines administered in Qatar is now exempted from quarantine in England. This was confirmed by the Qatari embassy in London, as the UK recognizes Qatar-administered vaccines (Qatar is not on the red list for the UK).
