Qatar has been prioritising its digital transformation for a while now, with various ministries making the switch to automated processes and online platforms for various e-services. This includes a variety of labour-related tasks, such as visas, permits, and requirements on both the part of the employee and the employer, all to streamline tasks and facilitate the processing of documents in various stages.
That said, the country is once again adding another stepping stone as a new scholarship is being launched by the government, which will offer students a guaranteed job once completed. In particular, up to QR20,000 will be allocated each month for the student to immerse in digital fields abroad.
This Digital Transformation Programme will be applicable for the 2026/2027 academic year, and is a joint endeavour between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). This also goes hand-in-hand with the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau.
Using specialised programmes, the initiative’s aim is to ultimately target filling in gaps in the labour market. As for the specifics of studying abroad, depending on the track, two annual business-class tickets may be included, as well as pre-departure allowances of up to QR40,000. Rewards for academic excellence will also be recognised.
Meanwhile, for domestic scholarship students, they will be offered monthly stipends as well as full tuition when enrolled in approved institutions.
This effectively creates a more seamless shift from the academic premises to the real-world workforce. Registration will run from July 1st to August 15th.
Additionally, internships during summer breaks will be included as well, along with mentorship programmes that will further enhance the students’ preparation for life after graduation. The programme covers artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and cybersecurity among other disciplines.
