Qatar spreads awareness of data protection via MADLSA’s cybersecurity program

Qatar’s Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA) has come to the culmination of its data protection project in the State, allowing citizens to feel safer and to enjoy some peace of mind when it comes to the personal data of the public.

Along with this project comes the internal auditing and administrative audit programs in order to tighten the country’s cybersecurity measures. This is in compliance with the nation’s strategy as explained by Director of Information Systems Department at the Ministry Eng. Muna Alfadhli.

This also comes from the need to accelerate electronic procedures in order to facilitate the online requirements for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Dubbed the “Information Assets Classification” project, the system helps to ensure that all of the necessary security controls are being used in order to protect hosted data according to best practices in international standards.

Moreover, the MADLSA was at the forefront of this initiative to implement a solid plan to complete the project. It was able to properly classify information assets as well, all based on the criteria of data sensitivity. Within its own services, the MADLSA was able to protect any hosted data using tight security controls.

This initiative comes with the need to spread awareness to the general public on how they themselves can protect their own data, especially when dealing with online activities. It’s crucial for the general public itself to be aware of the measures necessary to ensure data protection management as well as how to keep any kind of data from leaking.

This kind of initiative is doubly important especially as more and more people turn to online services during the pandemic. As the threat of COVID-19 continues, the general public is encouraged to use online measures and to take advantage of fewer in-person transactions when possible in order to limit unnecessary gatherings in public.

While Qatar continues to relax its measures gradually when it comes to safety protocols (and as the country continues to adapt to the re-opening of the economy), it’s still important to follow basic health practices like keeping their distance and wearing masks in public.
