The State of Qatar has emphasised its strong stand to uphold public cleanliness across regional and internal levels, as stated in a speech by Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs Eng Abdullah Ahmed al-Karani on the occasion of World Cleanup Day. Qatar has become a role model of sorts when it comes to policies on public cleanliness, which was particularly highlighted on World Cleanup Day.
Qatar continues to adopt strategies for offering the best public cleanliness services across the state, all based on best practices and international standards. This includes waste recycling efforts, legislation on cleanliness, digital transformation initiatives, waste collection, and disposal of waste in a safe manner on the road to sustainable development.
There’s also the launching of the General Cleaning Department wherein source sorting containers are distributed to residential areas based on a fixed schedule. The Smart Waste Management System application was also released in June by HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah, showcasing the Ministry of Municipality‘s continuous efforts to improve waste management.
All these are in line with the “Zero Waste” national initiative as well, which was previously kickstarted during the Waste Management Conference and Exhibition 2022, all as part of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
In other news, a public cleanliness march was held in Lusail Boulevard in Lusail City with the theme of “‘Cleanliness is Everyone’s Responsibility”. This was represented by the General Cleanness Department in partnership with Qatari Diar as overseen by the Ministry of Interior.
