Qatar reviews labour reforms in meeting with the ILO

Qatar has met with the International Labour Organisation in order to review its current progress related to the labour sector. In particular, HE the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri met with the Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Gilbert F Houngbo in a meeting held in Geneva.

Here, both parties reviewed the initiatives for the past four years when it comes to the joint programs between the two, as well as the technical cooperation according to issued reports. This also includes new legislation that has been adopted in accordance with the ILO reports. Both sides are committed to bringing relevant improvements to various areas of focus in the labour sector, which includes occupational safety, workers’ health and more.

Both parties will also continue to support companies and will review policies to make sure that all regulations are in keeping with the new legislation.

As such, the international partnership will continuously be enhanced, nurtured and developed, where both parties can share knowledge and exchange valuable experiences when it comes to comprehensive labour policies to keep the nation’s competitive advantage.

According to the Gulf Times, “HE the Minister of Labour affirmed the perpetuation of the joint technical co-operation between the Ministry of Labour and the ILO to underpin the labour sector in the country, stressing the sustainability of joint projects between both sides in the forthcoming years. He stressed that Qatar appreciates the joint efforts made through the distinguished partnership with ILO during the past four years, which appraised the reforms of the labour sector in Qatar.”

All of these are in line with the fulfilment of the Qatar Vision 2030. The ILO is also ready and eager to continue offering its support for the overall well-being of all workers with progressive labour reforms as well.
