The Ministry of Labour in Qatar highlights its dedication to protecting workers as it participates in the Inspection and Fair Recruitment workshop as part of the ILO’s Fair Recruitment Initiative (FRI).
Mahmoud Abdullah al-Siddiqi represented Qatar’s Ministry of Labour. This shows the Ministry’s commitment to the regulations that encourage fair recruitment, as well as its dedication to the laws that prohibit charging employees with recruitment fees and costs. International labour standards must be met, as well as the operational guidelines that protect workers during recruitment.
Companies who violate the law will have their permits cancelled. Inspection teams have been allocated in order to ensure that the regulations are followed properly by the concerned recruitment offices. The inspectors from the Labour Relations Department have also undergone proper training when it comes to human trafficking and forced labour.
In line with this, HE the President of the General Authority of Customs, Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Jamal, recently expressed his sentiments that students who’ve just graduated from the 45th batch of Qatar University are crucial in boosting the Qatari labour market.
In other news, the Ministry of Interior has once again furthered its efforts to provide services to residents and Qatari citizens as it launched the Qatar Digital ID Card application service. This is also in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
According to Major Ali Ahmed al-Binali, head of the Electronic Services and Internet Department, “The facial recognition of users stored with the MoI has been introduced as a key factor in digital ID formation. This is to authenticate the validity and authenticity of the identity of the persons eligible for the service and provide the protection and security of electronic transactions over the Internet to establish the concept of secure cyberspace.” This will also protect users from any kind of fraud when it comes to transactions.
