Qatar holds workshop to address occupational hazards and work-related injuries

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) is teaming up with a variety of strategic institutions in order to craft an official national system that will allow citizens to register for work-related injuries. This also involves occupational diseases in order to help identify all kinds of data regarding illnesses and its causes.

Given that one of the MoPH’s priority outputs is Healthy and Safe Employees as part of the National Health Strategy and the Occupational Health Project, the national system will prove to be instrumental when it comes to targeting the causes of workplace injuries and work-related diseases. This will also be crucial in determining how to reduce these injuries via proper awareness programmes. This includes developing the right guidelines and regulations that will keep the workplace safe and will limit untoward incidents.

As such, the MoPH has held a workshop that discusses the same. This workshop on occupational diseases was held at the Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Centre, and there were more than 50 occupational health and safety specialists in attendance.

The specialists, in particular, come from private companies, government institutions, semi-government and private entities, Weill Cornell Medicine, the Ministry of Labour, the International Labour Organisation, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Red Crescent Society, Primary Healthcare Corporation, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), QatarEnergy and more.

In line with this, the workshop was able to shed light on the most essential information needed to raise awareness from the necessary authorities when it comes to reporting these injuries at work. Proper occupational health and safety definitions were also reviewed, all based on the Qatari Labour Law and the International Labour Organisation.
