To further develop the labour sector within the country, HE the Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Labour Organisation Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri met with the Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Gilbert Houngbo. This meeting was to shed some light on the most recent developments within the sector, as well as to talk about the different ways Qatar and the ILO can work together to develop and support labour initiatives.
The meeting was held in Geneva, alongside meetings of the Board of Directors of the ILO.
Both parties also shared insights on the many challenges across global economies, as well as obstacles that citizens are concerned with when it comes to work environments, labour cirses, and negative issues and occupational hazards across the global labour market.
The Ministry of Labour has been continuously spearheading initiatives to improve work conditions and the labour market itself, along with a variety of e-services recently launched that have facilitated processes for both employers and employees alike. Even on the ground level, the MoL has boosted occupational health at various work sites, which includes a new cooling jacket model that helps regulate workers’ temperatures to reduce work-related injuries.
In other news, Qatar has also taken part in the first session of the Economy and Commerce Ministers’ Meeting of the GCC countries and China.
This was held in Guangzhou City, where HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater, Guangdong Provincial Governor Wang Weizhong, HE Minister of Commerce of China Wang Wentao, GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, and Their Excellencies Economy and Commerce Ministers of the GCC countries were in attendance.
This also made efforts to develop and further boost the cooperation between countries in this regard, especially when it comes to the thriving business environment in Qatar, which is ripe for foreign investment as well.
