Good news for expatriates who need to correct their illegal status – the Ministry of Interior (MOI) has officially extended the grace period to do so until March 31st. This time limit is to help revise the illegal status of those who are in violation of the provisions of Law No. (21) of 2015. The said law regulates the entry, exit and residence of expatriates.
Those who are in violation of the law should submit a request to the Search and Follow-up Department. This reconciliation request can also be submitted to service centers that transfer residence permits, which include Umm Salal, Al Rayyan, Mesaimeer, Al Wakra, and Umm Sanim. The same is true for service centers where reconciliation applications are accepted, which includes Al Shamal, Al Khor, Al Daayen, Umm Salal, Al Lulu, Unaizah, Souq Waqif, Al Rayyan, Umm Sanim, Al Sheehaniya, Mesaimeer, Al Wakra, and Dukhan.
“The Ministry of Interior calls on employers and expatriates to use this grace period for reconciliation to correct their legal status and avoid legal procedures against them for not legitimising their status,” says an official notice from the ministry.
In other news, the Services and the Public Utilities Committee of the Shura Council has discussed the State’s housing law. The meeting was spearheaded by HE Chairman of the Committee Ali bin Saeed Al Khayarin, along with HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti.
The Law No. 2 of 2007 on the housing system was discussed to improve controls regarding the use of housing. The discussion was held with HE President of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al Khalifa.
In the meantime, the country continues to improve measures and protocols on health and safety to prepare for the spike of COVID cases worldwide. This includes updating the list on the State’s travel policy as well.
