With the government’s continuing efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, the Ministry of Labor has penalised 24 companies for violating Covid-19 precautionary measures. Failure to adhere to protocols such as wearing masks and providing sterilizers will result in legal measures taken against any company.
The Ministry itself carries out intensive inspection campaigns when it comes to workplaces and in worker housings as well. These areas include Lusail, Al-Kharaitiyat and Al-Shahaniya. This is to make sure that all workers are protected, and to ensure that companies are fully committing to help prevent the spread of the virus.
On the other hand, Qatar Tourism has also been doing its part as it has expedited the process of issuing Holiday Homes licences. This is for residential property owners in Qatar to be able to put up their short-term rentals in listings on international websites.
Property owners must also commit to following safety protocols during the pandemic, as violations of safety measures will result in a prison sentence of up to two years for those who bypass the process without a licence. This may also include a fine of QAR200,000.
“The spirit of hospitality is a distinct feature of Qatari tradition. As we prepare to host visitors from every corner of the world for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, it is our chance to showcase our true essence. Qatar Tourism invites all residential property owners to share our spirit of hospitality while generating extra income from their unused units by simply getting a Holiday Homes licence. Steps and requirements needed for the licence are available on our website,” says Tourism Licensing director Mohamed al-Ansari.
In other news, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has partnered with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to create proper protocols in schools. Masks are mandatory, and a distance of at least one metre must be kept between each other. Among other protocols, there must be good ventilation in the schools, sterilisation of hands, distinfecting of surfaces and so on.
