Qatar enforces strict measures on commercial violations without licenses

A case on unlawful labour accommodation was followed up on by the Al Wakra Municipality’s Technical Control Section when a complaint cropped up regarding an old house. In this violation, it was discovered that ten employees were living in the establishment. This type of accommodation for workers is in violation of the law, and as such, there were necessary legal measures that needed to be taken.

In the same follow-up, the team discovered foodstuff in large quantities, all of which were being stored in below-quality and unhygienic conditions. In particular, some items were already past their proper expiration date, while others lacked any kind of proper information labels. As such, the health inspectors issued a necessary violation report. This is in accordance with law no. 8 for 1990 on the regulations of human food control.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) also took measures to penalise violators of the law when it closed two agricultural nurseries in Umm Al-Amad. The closure will remain in effect for a period of 15 days each. This is in violation of Law No. 5 of 2015 on Commercial, Industrial and Similar Public Shops, and Street Vendors.

The establishments were shut down because they were practising a commercial activity even without a proper license. This is in keeping with the State’s strict measures to monitor and regulate commercial establishments and market activities across the country. Any kind of violation must immediately be reported to the call centre at 16001, via Twitter (@MOCIQATAR), or on Instagram (MOCIQATAR).

In partnership with the Ministry of Interior, the MoCI has also conducted an investigation in garages in Sailiya Al Attiyah, where there were ten violations reported. All of these lead to the overall betterment of the country as a whole – for instance, Doha has recently been hailed as among the top destinations to visit in 2022 by the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice 2022 awards:

“The shining jewel of Qatar, Doha is a multicultural city, home to most of the country’s population as well as expatriate communities from a range of origins. Shopping abounds in the city’s plentiful malls, while the Corniche impresses visitors with picturesque architecture and dazzling views of the harbor. Doha boasts myriad cultural facilities, including the futuristic Education City and the National Museum.”
