Qatar economy adapts to COVID through innovative delivery bots

While the pandemic has certainly slowed down the operations of businesses all over the world, the State of Qatar has managed to discover a technologically advanced way of adapting to the new normal. Talabat, the country’s leading food delivery and q-commerce platform, has recently entered into a partnership with Airlift to revolutionize food delivery services in the state.

Being an autonomous systems start-up, Airlift is joining forces with talabat in order to fulfill various orders in the Msheireb District. This revolutionary partnership is the first of its kind, and aims to facilitate processes when it comes to logistics. The autonomous technology further promotes sustainability and is a grand example of what Qatar can do with its tech ecosystem.

Energy-efficient, these autonomous automobiles are equipped with a full sensor suite with remote safety operators to ensure road safety while en route. “We are humbled and excited to support the future of mobility in Qatar,” says talabat Qatar managing director Francisco Miguel De Sousa. “As the leader in food delivery and quick commerce in Qatar, we are passionate about supporting Qatari start-ups and entrepreneurs to reach their visions to enable growth for the State of Qatar. Airlift is a shining example of QSTP’s incubator programme, and the transformational value that Qatar Foundation (QF) continues to provide in enhancing the lives of Qatari citizens and residents every day.”

“We’re thrilled to extend our collaboration with talabat and run an automated delivery service in a public environment for the first time in Qatar,” says Airlift Systems CEO Ahmed Mohamedali. “This is an important step towards our vision of making mobility safer and more convenient for people living in urban areas. We are thankful for the trust and drive to support innovation by Msheireb Properties and the Ministry of Interior’s Traffic Department.”

“As talabat, we are piloting different strategic mobility projects across the region, and we are proud to say our partnership with Airlift is one of the most advanced initiatives, both in terms of technological scope as well as from a maturity level. We would like to thank our partners, Airlift and Msheireb district, for sharing talabat’s ambition and vision and for helping us make it happen,” De Sousa adds.

In other news, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced that those who are aged 50 years and above who were already able to receive their second dose for more than eight months ago can be administered booster shots for the COVID-19 vaccine. “Booster doses for the lower age groups and the general public will follow at a later date,” the MoPH says. This comes as another proactive move from the government to ensure that all sectors can continue to operate safely and smoothly without the threat of the virus looming over everyone’s heads.
