Qatar boosts labour sector with joint work programme

To support the country’s ongoing efforts to boost the labour market, the Government of Qatar and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) have entered into an agreement that was signed to extend the joint work programme’s third phase for 2024-2028. With the goal of improving the labour market in mind, the agreement should help to enhance the national workforce’s competitiveness when it comes to the third National Development Strategy.

Additionally, this should boost the training within the labour market as well in line with the final stage of Qatar National Vision 2030.

HE the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri was in attendance, along with HE Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Dr Hind Abdulrahman al-Muftah. This also includes Director-General of the ILO Gilbert Houngbo as well as HE Director-General of the Arab Labour Organisation Fayez Ali al-Mutairi.

Specifically, with the continuing efforts of all parties to achieve sustainable improvements in the labour sector, the goals within Qatar’s National Vision are able to anchor themselves onto a strong foundation towards better progress for the sector. A truly “future-ready workforce” is in sight with the continued support from the ILO.

According to the Gulf Times, “HE Dr al-Muftah commended the outstanding partnership between Qatar and the ILO, praising the achievements made within the framework of the existing technical cooperation programme.” This means that Qatar can look forward to being able to attain its strategic developmental goals in the future.
