A new set of rules has been enforced when it comes to healthcare services that are offered in hospitals under the Primary Health Care Corporation and Hamad Medical Corporation. In particular, the government has released a decision that charges patients in various phases, which will begin with visitors in the first phase. This is according to a recent statement by the Ministry of Public Health via decision No. (28) and (29) of 2023 of HE the Minister of Public Health.
In particular, visitors to Qatar will be charged fees during this first phase. Residents of the country will not yet be charged until covered by the mandatory health insurance system. As such, these healthcare services will be free for citizens as well as for certain groups in government health facilities.
These decisions come as part of the response when it comes to ensuring that healthcare services are enhanced across the various public health sectors as well as with the MoPH. This should also help in ensuring that pressure on government health facilities is reduced. The fees will be based on the cost of the medical treatments and health services.
Of course, visitors to the country will be able to avail of additional insurance coverage for emergencies. This includes those who are under an international insurance policy as they can also acquire insurance coverage in Qatar as long as the criteria set by the Ministry is met. It’s also important for the policy to be able to cover the entire stay of the visitor in the State.
