As the sizzling summer sun heats up this season, the Ministry of Labour emphasises the importance of occupational safety with a seminar on preventing heat stress for workers. This comes as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to keep everyone safe during these crucial summer months, in partnership with the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund and Galfar Al Misnad Engineering and Contracting.
In line with this, the seminar was hosted as represented by the Occupational Safety and Health Department, which detailed the correct methods for workers to take in order to keep safe from the weather this summer. This is especially true for workers outdoors, as well as for accommodations.
Raising awareness of the dangers of heat stress will help alleviate any health issues that may arise, which is where safety guidelines at work come in as well.
For instance, the seminar shed light on the various symptoms brought about by heat stress. This includes not just headaches and dizziness but also fatigue and eventually loss of consciousness. With the knowledge of recognising these symptoms comes the steps that can be taken to respond efficiently and swiftly, which also means administering first aid when applicable.
Additionally, practical methods to prevent these symptoms were discussed, including keeping hydrated regularly and donning light clothing. Workers should also take breaks in the shade, or make use of protective helmets under direct sunlight.
In other news, the ministry is also keeping its commitment to occupational health throughout these months, all to work towards Qatar National Vision 2030.
