Sharq Crossing expected to start in 2020 third quarter

The Sharq Crossing is considered to be one of the most important infrastructure projects in the country. According to the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), it is scheduled to start construction officially in the third quarter of 2020 as announced as per the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani at a briefing session.

Because it serves as an important link between Ras Bu Abboud Street and the West Bay area, the Sharq Crossing is a crucial and extremely strategic hub for the main roads in Qatar. With impressive bridges spanning a total length of 12km above sea level, the crossing will connect these bridges to each other via an extraordinary underwater tunnel of 1km to help guarantee the smooth passage of ships above.

With the completion of this lofty and highly anticipated project, all of the motorists from Ras Bu Abboud will be able to traverse the West Bay in just approximately seven minutes, saving precious time for all busy citizens. The Sharq Crossing will also be a vital contribution to the convenience of all citizens and visitors that will travel to the 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums.

Local contractors were invited by Ashghal to the meeting regarding the details on the launch of the Sharq Crossing project. This meeting aims to form solid alliances with different international companies as well as with local entities. A presentation was shown on the details and the timetable for the project and its launching, as well as circumstances surrounding its implementation in order to provide the necessary information to local contractors who can begin their preparations and submit requests to tender accordingly.

“We trust local contractors and their ability to form an alliance to implement this project with the required quality and time, as this is the first of its kind in Qatar, which will cause a qualitative shift in traffic,” said Ashghal president Dr Saad bin Ahmed al-Muhannadi.

As more and more ultra-modern infrastructure projects are implemented and completed in 2020 and in all of the years to come, there will be more opportunities for foreign investments into the country, as well as better and more lucrative outlooks for anyone looking to expand further business horizons in the ever-growing economic state of Qatar.
