Qatar Stock Exchange kick-starts competition

To help improve the investment awareness and financial prowess among the youth of the future generations, the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) has launched its financial education competition (FEC) for the universities in its second edition.

This competition entails a great deal of research from students, who will present their studies and their evidence-based findings before an independent jury. The judges will be a distinguished group of experts in the financial and economic field. With the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) as the exclusive partner of the 2020 competition, the competition aims to boost overall interest and motivation when it comes to financial awareness in the youth.

According to Sarah al-Dorani, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, the initiatives of the QFC include the improvement of financial literacy as well the empowerment of future generations. This showcases to the world the intense commitment of the nation to invest in the youth of Qatar. This is also in line with promoting the UN Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education. “The QSE Financial Education Competition is aligned with that commitment,” he said.

QNB is the diamond sponsor. The venue’s sponsor is Doha Bank, while the Group Securities Company is a gold sponsor. Participants of the competition include the following schools:

  • College of Business and Economics (Male) – Qatar University
  • College of Business and Economics (Female) – Qatar University.
  • College of Islamic Studies – Hamad Bin Khalifa University
  • AFG College with the University of Aberdeen
  • Community College Qatar

According to the rules of the competition, there will be teams of eight students from seven universities and colleges. Each team will carry out comprehensive research on a certain theme. Afterward, the required analysis and recommendations must be presented well to the judges. The case study for this year’s competition will be Aamal Company. This is ideal for analysis because of the highly informative website that thoroughly provides detailed information with regard to the investor relations section. This is the type of information that investors and financial analysts will need.

The theme for 2020 is “The Importance of Financial Analysis in Stocks Valuation”. The final ceremony will be held on March 17.
