Qatar and Russia sign visa-free entry agreement

Qatar and Russia sign visa-free entry agreement

At the headquarters of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow, the State of Qatar and the Russian Federation signed an official memorandum of understanding (MoU) that effectively grants a mutual exemption from entry visas. This is applicable for the citizens of both countries, and for the citizens who hold ordinary passports when travelling.

From the Russian side, the MoU was signed by H.E. Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Envoy of the Russian President to Middle East and North Africa Mikhail Bogdanov. For the State of Qatar, the agreement was signed on behalf of the State of Qatar by H.E. Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi.

This signing will officially announce the abolition of entry visa requirement for both the Russian and Qatari citizens. This means a visa-free travel regime between the two nations. This visa-free stay cannot exceed 90 days.

This comes as a new development after Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI), Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), and Qatar Airways announced years ago that the country will allow visa-free entry for citizens of 80 countries upon presentation of a valid passport with a minimum validity of six months. Travelling to Qatar has become easier and more efficient for all kinds of travellers through the years, with Qatar’s e-visa platform, www.qatarvisaservice.com.

An open visa-exemption policy is applicable for over 30 countries all over the world. This helps boost tourism for the State. If you are a visitor who has travelled into the country by Qatar Airways, you will be eligible to apply for a tourist visa issued by the Immigration Department at Doha International Airport. These are valid for 14 days. There are also certain entry points in the State where you can acquire a visa-on-arrival from the Qatar embassy abroad.

If you are a resident of one of the GCC states, you can acquire a GCC Residents Visit Visa within a 14-day stay. This visit visa can be renewable for another 14 days. Moreover, if you have drivers or servants as a resident of Qatar, you can apply to have them issued Companions of GCC National Visa. This type of visa will have a validity of one month, and can be renewable for five months.
