It’s important to note that the Ministry of Public Health has approved the use of both Pfizer and BioNTech for the COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use. These have already been deemed as safe and effective and will be provided completely free of charge for all of the country’s residents and beloved citizens to ensure the overall protection of all sectors of the community from the deadly virus during this pandemic.

As the devastating effects of the global crisis continue to spread, it is the hopes of the State that it can ensure the safety and protection of its citizens to further enhance and improve the quality of life of all individuals within the State. The vaccine will, of course, be rolled out in batches depending on the priority groups of certain vulnerable sectors of society, such as those who are exposed to higher risks in the community. This refers to three major priority population groups, namely, elderly citizens, individuals with chronic conditions and other medical comorbidities, as well as essential healthcare workers who are key to the protection of the sick.

“The Ministry of Public Health launched a web link on its website where certificates of completing the 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine can be downloaded or printed,” says the MOPH’s statement on Twitter.

It is also important to know that you currently do not need a health card in order to get vaccinated for Covid-19. “You are no longer required to provide a health card in order to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. When attending your vaccination appointment, please ensure that you have a valid QID and that your Ehteraz status is green. It is, however, still recommended that you register for a health card as it will allow you to access governmental healthcare facilities,” MOPH’s Twitter account adds.

The National Authentication System or Tawtheeq is a digital service that allows for electronic authentication and verification as launched by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) in 2019. This useful online tool serves as a digital identity verification system that provides an individual with a verified national identity for all kinds of government e-services.

Using the Tawtheeq system, registered individuals will be able to make use of this useful platform to facilitate different processes and government applications more efficiently, promptly, and more accurately. Because there is only one singular username and password that is used across the board, this makes for an easier and more convenient log in process, hence, saving loads of time and effort and reducing margins for error.

The handy Tawtheeq system also improves the security and digital footprint of the user in accordance with the Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy. In this initiative, the government strives to provide bigger, better, and more streamlined services as its strategic objective to individuals who both live and work in Qatar. This also includes the different commercial establishments and businesses operating in the State to further boost the economic growth of the nation.

Furthermore, with the Tawtheeq system, the government is able to offer secure authentication in line with best practices for information security across the globe, along with digital signing and Single-Sign-On (SSO) services. End-users can access the system through this link: https://www.nas.gov.qa/self-service/.

Why do you need to register for your Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccination in the first place?

It’s extremely important to get vaccinated for COVID-19 so that you can not only protect yourself from the virus, but your own family and friends as well. Getting your COVID-19 vaccine is not just a matter of keeping your loved ones and the people closest to you the most safe, but it is also a matter of protecting everyone around you and the society at large. It is the responsible thing to do and in a sense your civic duty to ensure that everyone can go ahead and live safer, healthier, and happier lives moving forward despite the pandemic.

At the moment, Qatar is administering the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine as well as the Moderna vaccine. The Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Control in the Ministry of Public Health has deemed both these vaccines to be approved for emergency use. It is important to know that both vaccines are similar in nature, and individuals should be able to receive the vaccine and not worry about the brand regardless of the name.

Currently, the State of Qatar is inviting groups to gradually receive the vaccine, in accordance with the priority listings of those who are more vulnerable and who have a higher risk in the community. This includes individuals who are 40 years of age and above even with or without certain health conditions. Furthermore, those who have moderate chronic medical conditions are also invited, as well as healthcare professionals and important key workers in a wide variety of industries and ministries. This also includes school administration staff and teachers in the academe.

How exactly does the vaccine work?

In line with the need to get vaccinated, it is also important for you to know how the vaccine works overall. As vaccines save millions of lives each and every year, they provide protection from various life-threatening diseases and serious medical conditions such as meningitis, hepatitis B, mumps, measles, tuberculosis, seasonal influenza, and rubella. They normally make use of inactivated or weakened viruses that will help to stimulate an immune response inside your body. This, in turn, helps your body to develop an immunity because of the simulation of an active infection.

Of course, it’s normal for people to think that getting injected with an inactivated organism may cause the illness itself—however, this form of infection does not produce any sickness, rather, it helps your body produce antibodies to fight off the infection.

Now, sometimes, people who receive vaccines may experience side effects and exhibit minor symptoms, like fever. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this reaction is completely normal, as your body builds itself up to produce antibodies for your protection.

Note, also, that it takes a while for the body to create enough antibodies to provide full immunity, so if a person gets infected, this simply means that the body has not yet had enough time to develop an immune response. In COVID-19 vaccines, there are also usually two doses, which means that getting the first dose also does not protect you fully just yet against the virus. An individual must have the full two doses in order to render the vaccination complete.

Of course, even after getting the vaccine, you should still follow safety protocols such as wearing masks, washing your hands, avoiding crowded areas, and leaving home only when absolutely necessary. If you do need to go out to run errands or whatnot, it’s important to keep a safe distance from people as well. This ensures that you still keep yourself and those around you protected from the coronavirus. Getting vaccinated should, in no way, provde you with a false sense of security.
