Family sponsorship for sons of expatriates

As announced by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), a new proposal will soon allow the sons of expatriates to work in the private sector. This can be allowable without having to change family sponsorships in order to further enhance the advantages of maximizing the work capacities in the private sector for the sons of expatriates.

There will also be two new proposals pertaining to granting temporary work visas for up to six months. The other will refer to the reduction of the fees for the online services of the Ministry of Interior by 20%.

Maj Gen Mohamed Ahmed al-Ateeq, Director-General of Passports; Mohamed Hassan al-Obaidli, Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at the MADLSA; and Lt Col Ahmed Abdullah al-Harami, Assistant Director of the MoI’s Legal Affairs Department addressed the press conference.

Changes are being looked into and will soon be implemented as an amendment of Article 17 of Law No. 21 of 2015. The amendment will also have provisions that allow the members of the families of expatriate workers to work with any employer in the private sector. This untapped workforce is also in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 goals and will contribute greatly to the overall development strategies of the country.

A new temporary work visa will be offered to employees of private companies and commercial establishments. This covers instances of emergency, temporary, or seasonal work. Furthermore, with a 20% reduction of the fee for services rendered electronically, more applicants will be encouraged to avail of the services of the ministry without having to visit the actual government service centres physically.

Overall, these new proposals will reduce the costs of recruitment significantly, as well as reduce the housing expenses for all employers. This will greatly benefit the improvement of recruiting the surplus workforce that currently exists in the labour market.
